On purpose
Do it on purpose. |
Choose on purpose.
Listen on purpose.
Respond on purpose.
Focus on purpose.
[insert verb of your choice here] on purpose.
Why?
Because if you don't do it on purpose, an outside force is in control of your journey. That could be a circumstance, a customer, a manager, a friend, a partner, a parent. The list is very long. Expectations imposed upon us as we continue adulting get heavier and heavier as the years go by.
And the truth is, no outside force will ever understand you the way you understand you. We cannot get inside anyone else's brain but our own. We also cannot ignore said-imposed-expectations. But we can know what we want, and work toward it on purpose with such focus that the outside noise fades into the background.
With that being true, it is our duty to honor our inner selves every day. Whatever that means. If it means showing up on your yoga mat, do that. If it means eating ice cream every day, I applaud you, do that. If it means setting aside time in your calendar for big-picture thinking, yas #kweens and #kings, do that, too.
But for the love of all things holy, whatever you're doing, do it with intention. Because if you don't know where you're going, I assure you, you will not get there.
Here are some questions to ask yourself on purpose:
What sets my heart on fire?
Where is my energy most impactful?
What gives me energy?
What depletes my energy?
What do I want? Why do I want it?
What am I really good at?
Where and how do I want to expand my skillset?
